What is a diaper raffle?

First, it’s essential to know what a diaper raffle is before hosting one. A diaper raffle is a baby shower activity where you encourage each guest to bring a pack of diapers. Then, each guest who brings diapers gets entered to win a grand prize near the end of the baby shower.

Why have a diaper raffle?

When hosting a baby shower, it’s good to know that most people enjoy doing activities and games. But when it comes to a diaper raffle, there are many more benefits to having one rather than just playing a silly game. Here are the top five reasons to have a diaper raffle:

1. The New Parents Save Money

Diapers are a considerable expense when having a new baby at home. Hosting a diaper raffle for the new parents will be a massive relief for those first months (and maybe longer)!

2. Guests Know What’s Needed

Many guests aren’t sure what to bring new parents to a baby shower. Some people don’t like to use a gift registry, while others might not know what babies really need. One thing that everyone knows babies need is diapers.

Doing a diaper raffle will give some guests a clear-cut gift to bring. They know the new parents will use the diapers, and they might win a fun prize simultaneously!

3. Try Out Different Brands

If you are hosting a diaper raffle for first-time parents, they probably won’t know what diaper brands they prefer the most. Also, they won’t know if there is a diaper brand that disagrees with their baby’s skin.

When you have many people buying diapers, there is sure to be a good mix of brands to choose from. If the new parents try a specific diaper and don’t like it, they will know not to buy it in the future.

4. Unique Baby Shower Activity

Baby shower activities can be hit or miss with some guests; they either love them or hate them. The fun thing about doing a diaper raffle is that it’s a fun alternative to a baby shower game while benefitting the new parents greatly.

5. Great for Second or Third-Time Parents

When parents are on their second or third child, they might not want/need a baby shower. But, many people will still want to help the new parents out!

No matter how many children you have, you’ll always need diapers. So, throwing a diaper raffle for experienced parents is a grand gesture.

Choose Between One Ticket Per Person or Multiple Tickets

The first thing you’ll do when learning how to do a diaper raffle is to decide which ticket method you want to use. There are two main ticket options: one ticket per person or multiple ticket entries per person.

There are benefits to both ticket methods, so you’ll need to decide which option would be the most fun for your party! Here are the differences in both options:

When using the single-ticket option, each person who brings diapers will only get one ticket to enter into the raffle, no matter how many packs of diapers they bring.

But, if you choose the multiple ticket entries option, guests will get one ticket for each pack of diapers they bring. For example, if guests bring three boxes of diapers, they get three tickets to enter the raffle.

As you can see, the multiple-ticket method can result in a little more competitiveness, and it can also result in more diapers! Whereas the single-ticket option might be better for smaller parties, so everyone has more of an even chance of winning the raffle.

Include a Description in the Invitations

To have a successful diaper raffle, your guests must know about it beforehand. Your baby shower invitations are the best way to let them know about it.

When adding the diaper raffle info to your baby shower invites, you can either put the description right on the invitation or send them a raffle ticket like this one they can bring back.

If you choose to put the info on the invitation, you can write, “Bring some diapers-any size- for a chance to win a special prize!” Then, you can hand out tickets as your guests arrive with diapers.

Also, don’t be afraid to specify any brand or size preferences that you want, and encourage gift receipts. If guests include a gift receipt, you’ll be able to return or exchange diapers if need be.

Prepare the Diaper Raffle Station

After sending out the shower invitations, you’ll want to get everything you need for the diaper raffle. Here are the basics you’ll need:

  • A table for the diaper raffle items (and diapers)
  • Decor, like a diaper raffle sign or baby shower decorations
  • Diaper raffle tickets
  • A bowl to put the raffle tickets in
  • A pen to write guests’ names on the tickets
  • The raffle prize

Once the day of the baby shower arrives, you’ll want to set up your diaper raffle station however you like. One thing I found helpful at my first baby shower was putting the diapers that people bring under the table instead of on top.

If you get quite a few packs of diapers, storing them under the table will keep your table looking clean and ensure you have plenty of space for your new diaper stash.

Hand Out Tickets as Guests Arrive

If you choose not to send tickets with your invitations or choose the multiple-ticket option, you’ll want to hand out tickets as your guests arrive.

Also, it’s good to have guests fill out their raffle tickets and put them in the bowl as they add their diapers to the table area. Having guests fill out tickets immediately will prevent them from forgetting to do it!

Announce the Winner!

Lastly, you get to announce the winner! Once your guests have arrived and added their appropriate tickets, you can announce the winner whenever you like.

Typically, it’s best to announce the winner no earlier than halfway through the shower to keep things interesting. You can also wait till the end of the shower to announce the winner to get a sort of a grand ending.

To choose the winner, you’ll simply mix up the tickets in the bowl and then have the mom-to-be reach in the bowl and pull out a ticket. The name on the ticket is the person who wins the raffle prize!

How much should a diaper raffle prize cost?

Choosing the diaper raffle prize can be tricky for some. You certainly don’t want the prize to be too inexpensive. But on the other hand, you don’t want the prize to be too extravagant, especially if you have a baby shower on a budget.

A good rule of thumb when choosing your diaper raffle prize is to keep it no less than the cost of a large box of diapers. Keeping your prize at a minimum of around $40 will make guests excited to win, and it can make the diaper more enticing to some guests.

What’s a good prize for a diaper raffle?

Now that you know how much to spend on a diaper raffle prize, you might be at a loss for prize ideas. Here are the top five diaper raffle prizes:

1. Gift Cards

Gift cards always make a good prize because everyone loves them! When picking gift cards for a diaper raffle prize, you can stick with one of more considerable value or get a few smaller ones for variety.

Just remember to pick gift cards that most people will enjoy receiving. For example, Amazon, Target, or home stores are typically a safe bet.

2. Spa Gift Basket

A spa gift basket is a great prize option that encourages the winner to pamper themself! Some items to include in a spa gift basket are face masks, luxurious body lotion, bath bombs, a scented candle, lip balm, and body scrubs.

3. Coffee Gift Basket

Coffee gift baskets are a very popular prize, but it doesn’t have to be only about coffee! You can include pretty mugs or thermoses, hot cocoa or tea, coffee shop gift cards, flavored syrups, and fancy cookies.

4. Cozy Gift Basket

A cozy gift basket is always a hit, especially if you have a baby shower in the winter. For a cozy gift basket, you can add a plush blanket, slippers or comfy socks, a candle, and a hat and gloves if the weather is appropriate.

5. Movie Gift Basket

Lastly, a movie gift basket is a fun idea that most people will love! For a movie gift basket, you can include a gift card to your local movie theatre, some candy, microwave popcorn, a few drinks, and even a cozy blanket if you are going for more of a movie-night-in feel.

How many diaper raffle prizes should I have?

How many diaper raffle prizes you have will depend on how many guests you expect to participate. For example, if you have ten guests or fewer, one prize will be plenty.

If you expect anywhere from 10-20 guests to participate in the raffle, it’s better to have two prizes. And if you have 20+ guests, you’ll want three prizes.

Having more prizes with a higher guest count will make things even more exciting when it comes time to announce the winner.

Also, you don’t have to make all of the prizes equal value! You can have the grand prize, which will be the most expensive, and two lesser-value prizes.
